Panel Diskussion mit Charlotte Nies, Francesca Pichierri und Dominic Thiel, moderiert von Lena Reitschuster (EN)

Dominic Thiel, Francesca Pichierri, and Charlotte Nies are discussing the portrayal of emotional states and the techniques used to achieve it in their works La Stanza and Insulation (…) and be longing. The question of identity and its formation in relation to the environment has been formulated through images, sound, and the use of space. Thiel and Pichierri’s experimental poetry film and Nies’ video installation both exist in their subjectivity and timelessness, aiming not to convey a straightforward narrative but to immerse the spectator in this feeling. The works don’t deliver answers but engulf the spectator in the struggles of the protagonists, allowing them to live the questions for themselves.

Charlotte Nies is a media artist and a graduate with highest honors from the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, Germany as well as the Ecole Supérieure d’Infographie Albert Jaquard, Belgium. The entwinement of the virtual and our perception of the real are central themes in her artistic practice. Her works focus on questions of belonging and identity, as in her video installation “Insulation (...) and be longing”. She strives for a form of expression beyond words, through exploration of new forms of visualization, space and sound.

Francesca Pichierri exists in her current material form. Her genes are 96.2% Southern European, but she is currently based in Stuttgart. When she does not reveal her sensitive data in public, she works in the privacy field. Francesca is a versatile artist; her interests range from music to poetry and visual arts. She wrote the experimental poetry film La Stanza (WT).

Dominic Thiel studied Media Art with focus on film at the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe and currently works as a freelance cinematographer, director, and media artist.

His experience as a cinematographer has a strong visual influence on his directorial work in an effort to create an atmospherically immersive experience. He directed and shot the experimental poetry film La Stanza.
